Monte Bernardi’s history have been linked to wine for a long time: our oldest vineyard is over 40 years old, while the youngest is just 10 years old, with the first wine produced in 1992. Previously the grapes were sold to neighboring farms. The Schmelzer family purchased Monte Bernardi in 2003 and has since invested great amounts of time, love and money in the vineyards, the winery and villa.
To produce our wines we use only grapes from our vineyeards. We have great affection for Sangiovese, Chianti Classico and the distincive flavors of Panzano. We make every decision with the aim of creating wines which are true to our land.
That’s why we farm our vines biodynamically. This allows for the greatest expression of terroir, ultimate quality, and harmony between our vineyards and the environment. We’ve been Organic (certified) / biodynamic since 2004.
Our methods involve maximizing the quality of the fruit that comes from our vineyards, harvesting at optimal ripeness and selecting only the best fruit when hand picking and sorting. We use only indigenous yeast and bacteria. We keep the addition of sulfites to the minimum to ensure the longevity of the wine’s natural flavor and color. In short, the result of this labor of love is pure wines which express the essence of Panzano.
We live and work to serve our consumers with delicious, high quality wines. Our methods respect both the environment and the people with whom we work.
Enjoy the fruits of our labor!
